Self Help Article: "Why Do Some Affirmations *Work* - and Others Don't?"

Self Help Article: "Why Do Some Affirmations *Work* - and Others Don't?"

Why Do Some Affirmations Work - and Others Don't?
- by Jeff Staniforth
==========================================

By definition, an affirmation is a statement repeated time and again either verbally or mentally -- or written down. The words of the affirmation statement - in themselves -when spoken, thought of, or written *without* a pictorial (visualized) or emotional connection -- make a very weak affirmation.

Affirmations, when worded correctly -- and when emotionally charged - are able to tap into the unlimited creative power of your subconscious mind, and manifest your desires.

Affirmations are not all created equal. Some are, of course, better than others. There are *power affirmations* that have been proven again and again to work - and I'll reveal some of them in a moment.

When you examine the structure of these power affirmations, you, too, can learn how to create your own powerful affirmations for your specific purposes.

Consider the following:

"I am what I choose to be."
"All my needs are met instantaneously."
"I love and accept myself exactly as I am."
"_____________ comes to me easily and effortlessly."
(Fill in the blank with what you desire.)
"I am now perfectly healthy in body, mind and spirit."
"I now create my wonderful, ideal life."

What do the above power affirmations have in common?
1) They're stated in the present tense.

An affirmation is more effective when stated in the present tense. For example; "I now have a wonderful job." Avoid affirming something in the future tense, e.g. "I am going to have a wonderful job" or the results will always be waiting to happen.

2) They express a positive statement.

Affirmations need to be stated in the most positive terms possible. Avoid negative statements. Affirm what you do want, rather than what you don't want. For example: "I am no longer sick." This is a negative statement. Instead, affirm: "I am now perfectly healthy in body, mind and spirit." This statement is much more powerful as it is positive and reinforces your desired goal and doesn't confuse your subconscious mind with the mention of the undesirable condition.

3) They're short and specific.

Short affirmations are easy to say, and have a far greater impact at the subconscious level than those which are long and wordy. Keeping them specific and to the point adds power as the idea is uncluttered by extraneous elements.

The mechanics that make affirmations powerful are:
* Repetition
The importance of repetition cannot be overemphasized. It imprints the affirmation into your subconscious mind.

* Emotions
Get involved, be passionate, and use your emotions. Think carefully about the meaning of the words as you repeat them rather than just writing, typing or saying them.

* Persistence
Practicing affirmations with persistence achieves results much sooner than practicing them periodically. Successive sessions will have a compounding effect.

* Belief
You don't necessarily have to believe your affirmation initially, in order for it to work. Belief will grow with your forthcoming successes. What you do need is the ability to *feel* what it would be like when the desire you're affirming is fulfilled, or your need met. Every time that you have a need -- and that need is met -- a certain "feeling" is produced in you. You need to evoke that same feeling when you state your affirmation. In other words, you need to feel with every fiber of your being that what you desire has already happened. Without this feeling, your affirmation is powerless.

* Impress Yourself
Personalize your affirmations. They must *resonate* with you -- feel right for you. The stronger your connection with the affirmation, the deeper the impression it makes on your mind, and the sooner you will experience positive results.

So there you have it - the simple formula for creating affirmations that work. Based on the above, you can easily create your own affirmations to manifest any desire or need you have in life.

TIP: Although the practice of affirmations is easy, some people find it challenging to repeat the affirmations continuously while maintaining the highly charged emotional state necessary in making affirmations work. DID YOU KNOW... that you can use your computer to make the affirmation process effortless - and that you can automate those challenging aspects (such as maintaining highly charged emotions), and thereby, manifest your desires more quickly?

Confidence Self Help: Program your Mind with Confidence

Confidence Self Help : NLP Anchors

Note: NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's go back a few decades in time. Pavlov a russian scientist made some startling discoveries. His experiment involved dogs hearing a bell ring prior to being feed. After a few days, Pavlov rang the bell without providing any food. However the dogs were drooling and looking for the food. They had associated food with the sound of the bell. They were conditioned to desire and drool for food with the simple ring of a bell.

Of course people are not like dogs. However the same principle can be applied to us.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anchors allow you to bring up certain emotions on the command of an association.

Basically, you can create a trigger which confidence can be associated to.

Here are the steps to bring confidence in your life:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1: Select a Trigger Device
NLP trainers recommend either sqeezing your wrist or pulling the middle finger of your left hand. Choose something that does not get lost with the daily activities of your hands. Make it unique. It is important that you perform the trigger excalty the same way each time or it will not work.

Optional Step: Get some Relaxing Music
This one is not necessary but it will help you relax. If you have trouble relaxing then I recommend the music because the excerises will have little effect on you.

It should be soft music without lyrics. "Sensual Massage" or "Winds in the Wood" are good examples.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 2: Get Yourself in a Relaxed State
Listen to the music or to your heart beat. Relax....Take a few minutes to get yourself in that state.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 3: Bring up Strong Feelings of Confidence
Remember a time when you accomplished something big and felt great. Maybe you got a great time for a 10km run. Or you won that big important game. Or you made that gigantic sale. Or you got that job where you beat out 20 other candidates.

It can even be something imagined. Imagine winning the Stanley Cup and having the entire audience cheer for you. Or you're James Bond just after saving the world.

Once you have that memory or image, start playing it through your head. Feel the build up of emotion. Feel how unstoppable you are. You just accomplished something great and nothing is going to stop you.

So keep on playing the scene and building the emotion.....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 4: Use the Trigger at the Emotional Climax
When the emotion builds up to its climax, then it is the time to use the trigger. Make sure you are very emotional for it to be effective. Now, you are associating that powerful unstoppable confidence with your own trigger. Cool, eh?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 5: Slowly Calm Down and Repeat Trigger Excerise Once More
A session should take about 6-10 minutes and it involves going throught the mind conditioning excerise.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Confidence Self Help Tool Continued

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 6: Practice daily for at least 30 days.
It takes commitment. After this time, you will have anchored this desirable mental state into your subconscious reality and can recall it on demand before or during any anxious moment by using the trigger.

If you are looking for something quicker and more effective but can spare the money...

Step 7: Use the Trigger in your times of Need
Do not use the trigger too often otherwise it will lose its powerful effect. Now when you need some extra courage for some difficult situation, you will have a powerful weapon.

Self Help Guide

Do you know exactly what you want in life? Most people only know generalities. They might say they want to be successful or rich? When asked how they will obtain this most people say that they don’t know.
How can you become rich or successful with no strong plan and direction?
Goals are VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT. If you do not have goals and a strong plan, you are guaranteeing yourself that you will be just average at best. Every successful person has goals and a very detailed plan on how they will achieve this. Thomas Edison used goals. Bill Gates used goals.
A Harvard Study researched the importance of goals. Out of the top graduating class, the students that responded that they had specific plans and goals on what they wanted to accomplish in their careers earned 1.5 times the income within 5 years compared to those who had no specific plans. Note that these students had their plans only in their minds. However, there was one small group of Harvard Students who had their goals written on PAPER and with a specific plan for their success. These students earned 6 times the income within 5 years compared to those with no plans.
I cannot stress enough the importance of goals enough. If you want to make things happen then you need a strong proven plan.
Learn the most effective goal system
Step 2: CONTROL YOUR THOUGHTS
Once you have a plan that can take you to success, you need to make sure that your mind will not try to stop you. Your thoughts will determine how successful you are. Often your mind will tell you that something is too difficult and uncomfortable. If you were to listen to it then you would be letting it sabotage you.
Successful people have their own ways of dealing with negative thoughts. They do not allow themselves to wallow in their own self-pity.
Have you met people who are always negative? I have met many and I always find that they suck the energy and motivation for any great idea. Do you see these people becoming happy or successful with their attitude? Personally, I try to leave their presence as quickly as possible.
Thinking positively makes you feel great. It increases your happiness and life span. It makes success happen.
Your thoughts are self-fulfilling prophecies. If you believe you can succeed then it is much more likely you will succeed. What do you think one’s chances are for success if they do not believe they can succeed?
“One of the main weaknesses of mankind is the average man’s familiarity with the word “impossible”.” Napoleon Hill
How are you going to let your thoughts affect you?

Step 3: CONFIDENCE ON DEMAND
Lack of self-confidence is one of the most common weaknesses. And one of the most difficult to overcome for most people.
Sometimes we know we need to do something yet we do not act. These are key times that we will need overwhelming confidence to defeat the most difficult of fears and challenges.
We need that last bit of courage. And that courage is learnable.

Step 4: EDUCATION
Once you have the mindset to reach your greatest potential, then education comes into play. Never stop educating yourself. It is your best investment with the highest rate of return. Gain the specific skills required to obtain your dream.
I invest a lot of my money into my education. It is investment that I will never lose.
